Travellers looking to soak up a bit of culture on a city break should book cheap flights to Amsterdam, if one correspondent's experiences are anything to go by.
Writing for the Independent, Sanka Guha recounted a trip to the Dutch destination, which saw her marvel at artwork in the Van Gogh Museum.
The attraction is a homage to the painter's year in the city and features many of his landscape and portrait pieces.
"Though Vincent only spent a single year here – 1877 to 1878 – it seems entirely plausible to me that his artistic habits were formed by the wonky lines of the city," Ms Guha said.
She also enjoyed a spot of sightseeing, passing the Westerkerk, which is the highest tower in the conurbation.
The correspondent highlighted the unmissable Anne Frank House, which tells the tale of the famous war diarist through interactive displays.
Last month, Simonseeks columnist Lucy Clapham suggested Amsterdam is best explored on a bike.
