The Daily Mail's John Muir recounted jetting in to the Italian city, before taking the train to nearby Brescia and catching a ferry to Monte Isola, which is found at the side of the water feature.

During his break, Mr Muir toured a number of pretty lakeside villages and enjoyed a jaunt to the local 13th century castle, the Torre del Vescovo.
"This was 'baroque and roll' at its most magical and we pranced happily beside the lake with other golden oldies," he said.
