Holidaymakers looking for some budget-friendly summer sun should book cheap flights to Crete, according to a correspondent.
Writing for the Daily Mail, Sophie Butler pointed out that choosing Crete or one of the country's lesser-known resorts could be the best way to bag a bargain.
"The beaches are often just as good and the hotels better than those in the more developed resorts," she said.
People who head to Crete should also take time to visit its villages, according to the Guardian.
Columnist Catherine Mack highlighted Megala Chorafia, which is located inland in the mountains of the destination, and Taverna Lemonia.
The latter of these offers stunning views of the sea and is also where travellers can have a look around an olive farm.
Ms Mack also enjoyed sampling the local cuisine, including mizithra - which is a soft goat's cheese - and wild green vegetables.
She concluded that more people should consider looking to the island's lesser-known spots to enjoy a unique sunshine break.
