Those who book cheap flights to Venice could follow in the footsteps of one newspaper columnist and enjoy a bar crawl.
Although the Italian destination is known as a haven for loved-up couples enjoying romantic weekends, the Guardian's Gavin McOwan decided to enjoy a fun holiday with his friends.
He recounted going on a giro di ombre, which involves touring the city's bacari and enjoying a tipple in each.
This jaunt took the correspondent to eateries such as Ca' d'Oro - Alla Vedova and Do Mori.
He said trying out the bars' tasty foods was just as interesting as drinking their alcohol, explaining that the All' Arco dished up foods such as langoustines, calamari and prawns.
"Don't spoil your visit to Venice by eating in over-priced tourist traps - follow the locals' lead and graze on bar snacks in back-street osterie," Mr McOwan remarked.
Another foodie who has recounted a jaunt to Venice is TV chef Gary Rhodes, who wrote a column for the Daily Mail last month.
He said he wanted to find out what the country had to offer besides pizza and pasta and toured cities such as Naples.
