The next thing to do after booking cheap flights to Dalaman is to arrange a hire car for your holiday, if one correspondent's experiences are anything to go by.
Guardian columnist Annabelle Thorpe has detailed a recent road trip around the south-west of Turkey, which saw her visit Dalaman, Izmir and small villages in the Mugla province.
Having her own set of wheels allowed her to explore places off the beaten tourist track, such as the small coastal village of Akyaka.
Here Ms Thorpe tucked into a "zingily fresh" fish supper of sea bass and bream, before lazing on the banks of the Azmak River.
Later in her jaunt she visited the cultural attraction Ephesus, which has strong ties with Christianity.
"The site astonished me, just as it had on my first visit ten years ago, but a new and spectacular feature is the hillside mansion houses, kept under cover until a couple of years ago because of their fragility," Ms Thorpe remarked.
Last year, another column by Ms Thorpe for the newspaper claimed that Antalya is a hot destination this year and is fast becoming "the new Dubai".
