This summer will see a change to many bars and restaurants in Prague as anti-smoking regulation takes effect from 1st July 2010. This could make one of Europe’s most fashionable stag-do hot-spots even more popular with cheap flights to Prague.
Before the deadline date, owners of pubs, bars and restaurants in Prague must decide whether they want to choose non-smoking, smoking allowed a mixed mode.
The mixed mode is designed for establishments with facilities for both smoking and non-smoking sections.
Re-Discovering the Old Charm of Prague
As a result groups of friends put off by the smoky nature might consider a visit as more establishments become smoke-free.
It could also improve the cities romantic image with more couples arriving on cheap flights to Prague. Often hailed as one of the most picturesque cities with the ornate Charles Bridge an iconic couples spot, Prague might now welcome back love-up couples.
The charming Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square are other popular areas that are surrounded with bars and cafes.
Catherine Langerova, director of the united coalition against tobacco, welcomes the change in status of many bars and restaurants. She said:
"Since the beginning of this year, we have witnessed an increased number of non-smoking establishments registered at our website. While at the beginning of the year there were roughly 600 of them, up to today we registered 852 non-smoking establishments all over the country".
