This Easter break will see some two million Brits swap the April showers for warmer climes after the ABTA (Association of British Travel Agents) predicted that places like Spain, the Canary Islands and Sharm el Sheikh will be popular this year.
People are travelling to all kinds of destinations as they seek uninterrupted sun, winter sports or some good old fashioned site-seeing.
Swapping the Showers for the Sunshine
Escaping the eurozone continues to be a popular option for many Brits which is exemplified by the growing interest in cheap flights to Sharm el Sheikh but also to Turkey and Tunisia.
The near guarantee of sunshine in these countries and better value currency is complemented by similar short haul cheap flights that are only a little longer than many of those to the popular Spanish or Greek resorts.
Jon McEwan, chairman of ABTA is quoted saying: “Easter is the traditional curtain raiser to the summer and I am delighted to see that hundreds of thousands of our customers are taking the opportunity to take a well earned break both here in the UK and overseas.”
Of the expected two million jet-setters, it is thought 141,000 will be taking their cheap flights from Manchester Airport. Jet2.com, the friendly low fares airline operate a number of cheap flights from Manchester to 28 different destinations.
