The rate of exchange is becoming an increasingly important factor for people choosing where they will travel to for a holiday this year, one sector commentator has claimed.
Julian Neal, global marketing director at Travelex, said he predicted that two long-haul destinations that were likely to see healthy visitor numbers were Australia and South Africa, as these were both countries where the pound had been performing well.
"Destinations just outside the Eurozone - such as Turkey, which still has its own currency - look set to grow in popularity, particularly with its year-round hot climate and a favourable exchange rate for British holidaymakers," he added.
According to a survey by Travelex, 52 per cent of respondents will spend more time choosing their holiday destination based on cost and the exchange rate in order to get a better deal this year.
Meanwhile, the traditional two weeks in the sun is still on the cards for many next year, with 60 per cent stating that they are not prepared to give it up.
