In recent months Jet2.com has welcomed a number of famous faces onto their flights but it appears that it’s not only celebrities making the most of the airlines low fares. No, a pigeon nicknamed Biggles was this week flown home after struggling to complete the journey to Scotland himself.
Jet2.com is developing quite the affinity with animals having already rescued a pack of lions from Romania earlier this year and flown them into Yorkshire. This time though it was Biggles the pigeon getting front seat VIP treatment.
“The wee fella did well to choose a pilot’s garden to land in”
The racing pigeon was released in Newark, Nottinghamshire on 22 May 2010 but didn’t make the journey home to Scotland. He was eventually found in the back garden of Jet2.com pilot Captain Mike Smith.
Captain Smith was soon in touch with Biggles’ owner Steve Girdwood, who was thrilled to discover that one of his prized birds was okay. He said:
“I was overjoyed to hear from Captain Smith – the pigeon is one of my fastest birds and was 5th out of 1000 racers on his last competitive outing. When he didn’t return home after a few days, I thought something must be badly wrong but the wee fella did well to choose a pilot’s garden to land in!”
“This is certainly the first VIP pigeon”
Jet2.com owner, Phillip Meeson, was equally chuffed that Biggles could return home safely in the hands of Jet2.com’s friendly staff. He commented:
“I’m so pleased that Biggles was able to take full advantage of Jet2.com’s fantastic customer service and friendly low fares at the hand of Captain Smith! We’ve carried lions and members of the Royal Family before, but this is certainly the first VIP pigeon!”
