Prague’s reputation as a growing centre for culture could soon see it embroiled in controversy if an exhibition and statue are displayed.
Throughout the year, numerous visitors arrive on cheap flights to Prague to make the most of the lively pub and bar scene but it also attracts these throngs of tourist because of the impressive architecture and vibrant culture scene.
This art scene could soon be joined by the work of acclaimed Czech artist Alphonse Mucha and a statue to commemorate the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
Improving Prague’s Cultural Face
Officials in Prague are working hard to bring the work of Mucha to the city, especially his masterpiece, the Slav Epic. There are also plans to erect a statue of Michael Jackson on the same plinth that was home to a 15-metre statue of Josef Stalin.
The plans will see the statue erected near to the Prague Letna Park, which overlooks the Vltava River.
However, both proposals have been met with opposition but should they get the green light, it will considerably improve Prague’s burgeoning culture scene – with a bit of controversy thrown in for good measure. This could make cheap flights to Prague more appealing in the future.
