The Greeks are famous for their iconic dancing and it was on show in abundance over the past weekend as the island of Crete aimed to break into the Guinness World Record books with the longest dance.
Some 150,000 plus dancers joined hands along the road from Hania to Lasithi to create a human chain of dancers. The feel-good factor didn’t stop there though as messages of joy and happiness were spread through the island as everyone joined in to offer encouragement.
Making the Most of Traditional Local Customs
Visitors on cheap flights to Crete are never short of places to witness some live dancing, or even join in themselves. The Greek’s tradition of celebrating most events and occasions with a bout of dancing has made it a traditional custom of the country.
Therefore it is fitting that this record breaking attempt took place on Crete. Many of the dancers donned traditional folk garb and numerous onlookers joined in as 15 minutes of dance erupted along the island.
Throughout the summer months there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy some traditional Greek dancing with cheap flights to Crete. With many cultural events pencilled in for September visitors can mix a bit of live entertainment with time on the beach.
