There are few people in the world who appreciate their beer as much as the Czechs do, which is why cheap flights to Prague are very popular for beer-lovers. This is typified in a recent article for the Chicago Sun Times by Noah Lederman, who describes the city as “the new Paris”.

It is also fitting that he decides to begin his beer pilgrimage to the Munich Oktoberfest in Prague and in two beer gardens in particular.

Plenty of Beer and Plenty of Garden

Prague is blessed with a veritable network of pubs and bars serving a variety of beverages with the impressive Wenceslas Square a magnet for tourists looking for al fresco dining. However, in his light-hearted look at Prague’s boozing heritage, Mr. Lederman picks out two favourites – U Pinkasu and U Fleku.

Of U Pinkasu, which is located just off from Wenceslas Square, Mr. Lederman said:

“Most beer gardens in Europe are more beer and less garden, but this one actually has fauna that clings to the church’s stone facade. U Pinkasu was the first bar to serve the famous Pilsner Urquell.”

He also effused about the romantic charms of the equally impressive U Fleku, saying:

“The garden, which accommodates 450 imbibers, is larger than U Pinkasu’s, yet has a more romantic vibe. Accordion players and other musicians play local tunes, while mixing in a few Western favorites like “Oh My Darlin’ Clementine.”

With cheap flights to Prague it is possible to take in these charming boozing oasis’ and the many others that populate the city.
