On Friday (27 August 2010) the 49th annual Wine Festival of Limassol kicked off, on what will be ten days of wine tasting, events and exhibitions. The annual festival always offers a packed programme and this year is no different.
The opening of this year’s festival was marked by a wagon travelling through the capital of Limassol with men dressed in traditional costume, offering wine to passer-by’s.
Enjoy Local Customs and a Bottle of Fine Wine
The festival, hosted at Limassol Municipal Park, runs until 5 September 2010 and organisers are expecting an influx of foreign visitors as well as plenty of locals. For tourists arriving on cheap flights to Cyprus, this festival will be a charming example of the local customs and traditions still enjoyed on the island.
As well as finding plenty of local wines to sample and even purchase - should one please the palate - visitors will be able to spot the seven-metre statue of a man dressed in traditional Cypriot attire with the motto, “drink wine, live long”, emblazoned atop.
The whole atmosphere throughout the festival is jovial as wine experts and those keen to discover some of Cyprus’ cultures rub shoulders. Visitors will also find free bus routes to the festival.
