It is just days until outdoor skiing returns to Tignes, which officially opens on 25 September 2010. It marks the start of the Winter Ski season for many regulars to the area.
With some resorts opening over the past few days, excitement is building about the official opening of the Tignes resort - one of the favourite spots for regular skiers and snowboaders alike.
A Purpose Built Resort
There is currently indoor skiing available at the resort at the impressive 640m long Amneville descent but most people will be waiting for the outdoor ski to begin.
The reason for Tignes’ celebrated status as a leading ski resort is down to the near guarantee of good snow, created because it is one of the highest resorts in Europe. It offers 350km of pisted skiing and endless off-piste skiing making it a haven for regulars and newcomers. It is also why there are regular national and international events held here each year.
Also, because it is a purpose built ski resort, it offers a complete experience for visitors arriving on cheap flights to Chambery or Geneva.
The area currently exudes a typically autumnal appearance but it won’t be long until the slopes are covered in layers of snow ready for the season’s first skiers and snowboaders to arrive.
