People in the UK feel a real need to get away from it all and leave their stresses behind by jetting off on a summer holiday.
Ian Bradley, public relations officer at the Association of Independent Tour Operators, claimed that this was because Britons continued to view their annual break as a necessity rather than a luxury and that such a trip is likely to count as many people's biggest expenditure after a house and a car.
"People just feel the need to get away. They put money aside and say: 'I'm going to get away, no matter what'," he added.
Britons who want to head off on their holidays sooner rather than later may be pleased to hear that they can book cheap flights from Manchester, Edinburgh, Belfast, Blackpool, Newcastle and Leeds Bradford with budget airline Jet2.com.
An online survey undertaken by kayak.co.uk revealed that 98 per cent of respondents said they would forgo luxuries in order to have their holiday and 76 per cent are already saving up.
