There is a claim being whispered in some quarters that this year could see the return of the ski and snowboard holiday. It remains a whisper but according to Stephen Wood, writing for the telegraph’s travel section, “the omens are good”.
The reason for this is early snow in some key areas and the growth of some resorts. However, he does air on the side of caution when making these assertions.
“High-calibre resorts”
One of the reasons for his optimism comes from an overview of Italian ski – as well as overviews of other areas. He describes Italy as “an unpretentious ski destination” with “high-calibre resorts, notably Cortina, Madonna di Campiglio and San Cassiano”.
Madonna di Campiglio is renowned for offering an all-round ski experience, suited to all levels of ability and taste. It is easy to reach too with cheap flights to Chambery and Geneva making it easily accessible.
The laid-back nature of ski holidays in Madonna di Campiglio suits the modern discerning skier. A great range and scope of slopes keeps everyone happy, whilst the cuisine is celebrated to complement the après ski.
It is areas like this that could enhance the ski holiday this winter, but keep it quiet!
