Skiers and snowboarders heading for Tignes can now test their abilities on the Grande Motte glacier which opened last month.
The Grande Motte is one of Europe’s highest glaciers with ski runs measuring between 3,000 and 3,456 metres; providing a great test for your skiing abilities.
Skiers and snowboarders on cheap flights to Chambery or Geneva for a stay in Tignes, can access the Grande Motte glacier via the funicular in just seven minutes between 8:30 a.m and 5:30 p.m every day. The glacier currently has a snow base of 100cm.
One of the First to Open and Last to Close
Due to its high-altitude skiing and excellent snow record, Tignes is one of the first resorts to open and last to close every year. Tignes is open 25 September 2010 to 8 May 2011 this season.
Despite the opening of the Grand Motte, skiing in Tignes still provides a good selection of runs for all abilities. The area also includes 79 beginner runs and 36 intermediate runs, alongside the more challenging slopes. These are well signposted so that skiers now which run they are on.
