Britons preparing to jet off and enjoy a Christmas skiing or snowboarding down some of the best slopes the world has to offer may be interested to know that there are simple steps they can take to make their winter sports getaway greener.

Trey Granger, writing on the online pages of Earth 911, explains that holidaymakers should avoid simply binning their old snow sporting equipment when they upgrade it.

He noted that skis, snowboards and boots could be resold or donated - for example to a local charity shop which may allow new enthusiasts to pick up a bargain.

If such equipment is damaged beyond repair, Mr Granger suggests that people may wish to have it recycled.

"The plastic can be shredded to create decking or lawn furniture, making them useful all year round," he added.

Britons may be interested to know that they can book cheap ski flights with budget airline Jet2.com and fly from a selection of airports across the north of the UK.

Meanwhile, according to esure.com, one in four Britons go on a winter sports break without taking out insurance, the Independent reports.
