Skiers and snowboarders will be chomping at the bit to get to their favourite resort around the Alps this winter after heavy snowfall suggested that the fun is starting early.

Over the past couple of days some of the leading resorts have reported heavy snowfall, in some cases completely transforming the appearance of the area.

“Loads of fresh snow this week”

Tignes is one example of a resort that is now almost completely blanketed in snow. So far there has been 30cm of snow fall on the popular area. Yet only on Friday it was bathed in sunshine and the skies were a deep blue. Lucy Gee, a reporter for the Ski Club commented:

"We’ve seen loads of fresh snow this week, especially in Austria, it’s just a shame that the visibility hasn’t been great. The good news is that that once the sun comes out on Wednesday the skiing will be fantastic and there should definitely be some powder to be found."

Zermatt is another resort that has experienced plenty of snow over the past couple of days. It is reportedly covered in 15cm at the moment. Holidaymakers keen to get their skis and snowboards out early will find that cheap flights to Geneva and Chambery are perfect to reach the early snow. Plus, until 31 October 2010 skiers and snowboarders can get free ski carriage on all flights booked from Leeds or East Midlands to Geneva or Chambery.
