The ski season has seen its best start in ten years, thanks to the heaps of snow that have fallen over recent weeks.

Writing for the Guardian, travel reporter Tom Robbins noted that this year there are "vast quantities" of snow.

And if consumers had been considering winter flights to the Alps but needed convincing of the snow cover, then this news indicates that now could indeed be a suitable time to make cheap ski flights.

Indeed, some of the off-piste runs may be more enjoyable now, at the start of the season, before they get cut up from too many skiers having used them.

Mr Robbins notes that so many skiers go to the off-piste run from Mont Fort in Verbier that it is "usually cut up into icy moguls".

The snow so far this year is better than it has been for ten years and is also better than is available in the US or Canada, the writer notes, so winter flights to the Alps could prove to bring some snow-centred fun to the festive period.

Recently, travel expert Terry Grainger suggested that holidaymakers should look to recycle any ski equipment, rather than simply throwing it away.
