The list of the best ski places in France should probably be topped by Chamonix, which probably has the most exceptional standards for ski destinations in France. This is because it is situated right in the shadow of Europe's highest peak, Mont Blanc making cheap flights to Chambery ideal.
Chamonix consists of three major areas. The Grands Montets region has high elevation of north-facing slopes that overlook the village of Argentière. At the top of the Chamonix valley is the Balme region that has wide open areas that border Switzerland. And in the south there is Brévent/Flégère which has south-facing slopes and remarkable views of the Mont-Blanc chain.
In terms of skiing, Chamonix has a lot of selection on offer. There are extended slopes, forest runs as well as beginner slopes and off-piste runs for the more advanced. There are also three smaller valleys that offer an excellent area for beginners.
