In 1931, the International Ski Federation started the tradition of organising world ski competitions. Today, it has become one of the most awaited ski experiences for all professional skiers.
The well-known slopes of Val d’Isere are where the global ski events are taking place annually. However, skiing was not always how it is today.
How Skiing Was Viewed Back Then
When skiing was introduced in Val d’Isere, it was not treated as a winter sport. It was more of a means of transportation rather than a source of great enjoyment. It was the favourite means of transportation of churchgoers during Sundays. Skiing was also a favoured option for children when going to school.
It was in 1934 when Val d’Isere officially became a ski resort and a ski school was brought to existence in 1936. In 1942, the former draglifts were replaced with cable cars to finally introduce the winter sport.
Family Friendly
Nowadays, the famous ski resort is not only for the serious skiers. Val d’Isere is also a destination for family fun and it is easily accessible with cheap flights to Geneva and Chambery. A Snow Park named Val Park was built to accommodate the families that want to have some fun and enjoy easy runs as they take a look at the amazing views of the resort.
