Getting away to Barcelona is the perfect opportunity to escape the winter chill and do some pre-Christmas shopping in the winter sun. With regular cheap flights to Barcelona from Jet2.com you can enjoy a short city break or a longer stay.
With temperatures still averaging from the mid to high teens the festival market, the Fira de Santa Llucia, makes for a pleasant stroll a world away from the bustle of the high street. Amidst all the shopping there is plenty of architecture to admire too.
Mixing Shopping with Sightseeing
The city is rich with gothic and modernist architecture. The medieval centre is atmospheric with a terrific sight of Gaudi’s astonishing Sagrada Familia cathedral alongside the museums and galleries of this Catalan gem. Gaudi knew he would never see this finished and it remains incomplete today. He famously said, "My client is in no hurry. God has all the time in the world". Sadly he never did see it finished because he was hit by a tram in 1926 and died aged 77.
There is an array of Gaudi creations such as the stone building La Pedrera with its spectacular rooftop or his striking apartment block redesigned in kaleidoscopic style.
With all the sightseeing and shopping it is likely you will find up quite an appetitie. Authentic dining can be found around the city to romantically share tapas or a glass of the excellent Catalan wine.
To enjoy Barcelona’s markets and street entertainers then head to the famous ‘La Rambla’ boulevard.
With cheap flights to Barcelona from £19.99 one way, including taxes departing from Leeds Bradford, you can save some money for your shopping.
