One sector commentator claims that there are a number of steps holidaymakers can take to ensure they have an adventure-packed getaway on the ski slopes, without seeing their finances melt away.

Jennifer Openshaw, president and co-founder of WeSeed, explained that ski holidays were a great family experience which created more enjoyable memories than a lot of the rest of the festive period offered.

She advised that winter sports enthusiasts avoid the glamour of luxury resorts if they wish to get the best deal as they should want to pay for the skiing, not the location.

Ms Openshaw added that people should avoid booking their getaway during the holidays and that even weekends can be crowded, meaning that individuals should consider going directly after the festive period.

And the weekends could be cut out by opting for a shorter break, while she added that money could also be saved by booking before the snow falls.

Another way to save money is to book cheap ski flights with budget airline Jet2.com.

Meanwhile, the Guardian's Tom Robbins has stated that the peaks of the Alps have got off to their best start in ten years.
