The Telegraph’s travel section has been inundated with readers tips offering their nuggets of advice about the Canary Island’s this week. Tenerife and Lanzarote enjoy the company of thousands of visitors each year, often making the most of cheap flights to the Canaries from Jet2.com.

A popular theme that recurred was Tenerife’s natural beauty, including things like its micro climate and volcanic landscape.

Francis Holmes of Worcestershire recommended that visitors to Tenerife should “experience altitude-sensitive ecosystems, such as the temperate cloud forest and the xerophytes (plants able to survive with very little water) of the coastal platforms.”

The Lush Landscape of Lanzarote

Lanzarote enjoys its own volcanic history which Brian Johnson from Oxon believes is worth discovering. He also identified the “Lava rocks from Timanfaya National Park – timanfaya means “fire mountain” – reach down to the sea at Los Hervideros (“boiling pots”). Sense the immense power of the Atlantic Ocean as it crashes against the rocks – and go on a windy day. The rougher the sea, the better.”

If visitors needed any more persuasion to visit the Canaries this year then Jan Mills in North Yorkshire provides it. She said:

“Lush”, “green” and “rainforest” are not words we would have associated with the Canaries – but that was before we’d been to La Palma. It’s lush because of the dramatic thunderstorms – but once the rain stops, the scenery is spectacular: the island was a walker’s delight in February.”
