The third largest island in the Mediterranean, Cyprus is one of the region’s most popular tourist destinations. With a length of 240 kilometres and a width of 100km, the island is heavily dominated by two massive mountain ranges: the Troodos Mountains and Kyrenia Range.
As a result of its geography, Cyprus has built a reputation as being a great destination for hikers, and a number of different nature trails have been developed for visitors, arriving on cheap flights from Jet2.com, to take advantage of.
Beautiful Scenery and Amazing Treks
There are ten National Forest Parks in Cyprus, but as well as being aesthetically beautiful, the park of Athalassa is perhaps the most suitable for travelling hikers.
Located a bit south of Nicosia, Athalassa has a series of different pedestrian lanes, bicycle tracks and roads created for visitors to travel and take in the area’s natural greenery. There are also facilities in place to encourage environmental education and training, making it a good choice for both experts and beginners to outdoor recreation.
Visitors interested in a more challenging hike, should travel to Stavros tis Psokas. Located in Cyprus’s largest pine forest, Paphos, it has several different trails for visitors to take advantage of.
Perhaps the most difficult of these is the Horteri Trail, which follows an upward course and requires a great deal of stamina, but is rewarded with a brilliant view of the valley. The Selladi tou Stavrou trails are slightly less challenging, but are perfect for those who are just starting out as hikers.
It is easy to discover all of this with cheap flights to Cyprus from Jet2.com.
