According to one TV comedian, his biggest question as he prepared to jet off and hit the slopes for a winter sports holiday was whether to take his kids skiing or snowboarding.

Writing on the online pages of the Independent, Dom Joly of Channel 4's Trigger Happy TV explained that he and his wife had always favoured skiing as snowboarding seemed "common".

However, he added that if he was hitting the slopes for the first time today he would probably opt to snowboard as it looked more comfy, stylish and fun.

In answer to this dilemma, Joly discovered tubing - a big black inflated tube that holidaymakers can sit on to travel at fast speeds down the slopes with no skill required.

But he concluded that skiing was still his winter sport of choice.

"It's no use, I'm too stuck in my ways. It's skiing and Kirsch in the Elk Lounge for me. See you on the piste," Joly concluded.

Britons who are as enthusiastic about winter sports as the comedian may be interested to know that they can book cheap ski flights with Jet2.com.

Meanwhile, European ski resorts benefitted from early snowfalls this year.
