As one of Spain’s most famous cities, Alicante is a holiday destination with a variety of things to offer its visitors. Its rich history and renowned Mediterranean port are perhaps what it is best known for, but the city is also awash with a number of different events, especially during the summer months.
What’s more, Alicante is constantly the subject of a number of cheap flights, making it a great alternative to some of Spain’s bigger cities.
Satirical Monuments
During June, one of Alicante’s biggest and most famous events will be taking place. The Fogueres de Sant Joan is held annually in the city, and pays homage to Saint John with a series of different celebrations. During the time that it is held, a number of massive monuments will be erected at various points in Alicante, all of which are unique in their design.
The monuments are satirical in nature, depicting famous figures in a different light, and each will be burned down at the end of the festival on the 24th of June. There will also be a huge firework display during the night of the festivities, which start on the 20th of June.
Medieval Market
Also during June, Alicante will open its Medieval Market. The annual stalls will reopen for the month, selling local crafts and featuring a number of different traditional trades, including pottery, ironwork and glassmaking.
Held in the city’s Old Quarter, there will also be a lot of entertainment on offer, such as music, dancing and street performers.
Jet2.com has cheap flights to Alicante all summer for anyone wanting to discover any of these events.
