Commonly known as the Hawaii of Europe, the Canary Islands are located 100km off the Moroccan coast. Tenerife is the largest of those Islands and is growing more popular with surfers from the UK and all over Europe.
Tenerife is ideally positioned in the Atlantic Ocean making it a haven for water sport lovers, especially surfing. The swell is usually big all year around, particularly in the south where the surf is at its best between May and November.
Good surfing spots in Tenerife include the tourist areas of Los Cristianos and Las Americas. For those of you staying in the north there are plenty of surfing beaches near Puerto de la Cruz and also on the most northerly tip of the island.
There are plenty of opportunities for beginners to learn how to surf as well. Surfing schools and companies can be found at various locations around the island. They usually provide surfing gear and equipment to rent.
Tenerife offers something for everyone
Of course it’s not just about the surfing. Whether it’s sunbathing, fishing, a visit to the water park or a whale and dolphin cruise – Tenerife is an island to try many different things. And with cheap flights to Tenerife all year round you could be enjoying its sub-tropical climate and warm crystal clear waters in no time at all.
