It’s nearly time for Barcelona’s European Balloon Festival when more than fifty brightly coloured balloons will lift off and float over the sun kissed fields of Igualada where the festival is set to be held between 8th and 11th July.
Spain’s biggest balloon festival attracts more than 25,000 people annually and this year promises to be a unique experience for visitors yet again. There’s always plenty of local Catalan cuisine to try at the many food stalls and you might even get lucky and win a ride in a hot air balloon.
The balloon festival has been growing in popularity with families since it first began in 1997. It’s quite simply a fun and relaxing day out that offers something alternative for Barcelona visitors.
Sunset Magic
If you do go to this event, make sure you stick around for sunset when all the balloons come together on the ground and glow like huge light bulbs or Chinese lanterns, making for a spectacular display for the audience.
It’s easy to reach the Balloon Festival. There’s frequent public transport to Igualada and if you decide to drive it’s around forty miles from Barcelona’s city centre.
This time of the year the weather is great in Spain and July is a great month for a holiday. Booking a cheap flight to Barcelona at Jet2.com is a great way to experience everything the wonderful Catalan city has to offer.
