Tenerife is the biggest of all the Canary Islands but while most people go there to relax on its black sandy beaches or hang by the resort pool, there is a whole lot more to see. In fact, although it has a bustling urban feel and its resorts are brimming with tourists, Tenerife offers a natural paradise for those wanting to go off the beaten track.
Mount Teide
The mountain, although hard to miss in panoramic views of Tenerife, is rarely more than just a distant picture on people’s camera phones. But go a little closer and you’ll be stunned by the beauty of its national park. There are hiking trails catering for serious or leisure walkers, mountain biking, climbing routes and beautiful flowers and wildlife to break up the monotony of sun bathing.
La Gomera
A short boat ride away, La Gomera is a chilled out contradiction to the resort-packed main island. Apart from a few hotels, it has remained near to its natural state with exotic gardens and leafy landscapes making up the scenery. Plus, people’s dream of swimming under beautiful waterfalls is possible at the Garajonay National Park.
Los Gigantes
Take a boat trip out to see the school of dolphins that call this place home, or relax amongst the quiet gardens when the hustle and bustle of the resorts gets too much!
