The beaches of the Las Islas Cies - an uninhabited island situated a short boat ride from Galicia, one of Spain's islands - have been named as some of the world's most beautiful.

According to the Guardian, the island - which is now a national park - opens to the public during the summer and used to be a pirates' haunt.

"Galegos come here to spend long, lazy summer days on the Praia das Rodas, a perfect crescent of soft, pale sand backed by small dunes sheltering a calm lagoon of crystal-clear sea," the article states.

And it adds that locals call it their Caribbean beach due to the turquoise tint to its waters and the whiteness of the sand.

In addition, after a day's sunbathing, holidaymakers can enjoy some Spanish sea food at the island's restaurant.
