Those looking for cheap flights to Venice have been advised on when to visit one of the city's most popular attractions.
A spokeswoman for the Italian State Tourist Board said this week that St Mark's Square in the centre of the region is often very busy, adding that this can mean picking the right time to go there is essential.
It was noted by Alessandra Smith that those considering a visit to the landmark may find it more pleasant in the cooler months, but explained those seeking summer sun had a number of other options available.
"Areas like what used to be the old Jewish ghetto and quarters, or the island opposite St Mark's Square are very pleasant. You can explore the old churches and the old docklands, all those areas off the square are much quieter," she said.
In a recent article for the Telegraph, Enrico Mingardi of the city's public transport department recommended tourists visiting Venice consider pre-booking their trip into the area.
