Short & Weekend Breaks in Paris
24 hours in Paris
Book a cheap flight to Paris with Jet2.com from Leeds Bradford
airport for a cheap weekend break or short break to the romantic capital of
France.
One of the most thriving cities in the world, Paris offers
so much for a cheap short break or weekend break it’s impossible to fit everything into 24hrs!
If you are looking for romance, art, culture, shopping or exquisite food and
drink you are looking in the right place.
Paris is divided into 20 small areas (known as arrondissements) which begin
in the centre and spiral outwards. The river Seine runs through the centre
of the city dividing it further into what are known as the Right Bank (to
the North) and the Left Bank (to the South).
There are so many must-sees in Paris that your short or weekend break will
be abundant in choice.
Sightseeing & Culture on a Weekend Break in Paris
For shopping whilst on your short break you might want to start with some
of the larger department stores such as La Samaritaine (rue de la Monnaire)
which offers just about everything including a wonderful roof-top café
overlooking central Paris, or Paris’ oldest departments store La Bon
Marché (rue de Sèvres). If designer luxury is your thing then
head for either avenue Montaigne or rue du Faubourg-St-Honoré. Whatever
you do on your weekend break, make sure you leave time to wander through the
trendy Marais district to sample some cutting egde design in both fashion
and lifestyle.
If you are a culture vulture then Paris is a dream come true. Make the most
of your short break by visiting the Louvre (Cour Napoléon), the vastness
of this museum is quite astonishing but it does have something for everyone,
ranging from Egyptian mummies to Tribal Art. Don’t attempt it all at
once though as there really is too much! Next up is the Musée d’Orsay,
housing a fantastic collection of art between 1848 and 1914. With over 80
galleries this is a treasure trove for art enthusiasts, all in one magnificent
building, the impressionist galleries always draw crowds but the expressionist,
post-impressionist and romantics collections are equally as enchanting. The
Pompidou Centre is definitely worth a visit whilst on your weekend break,
in contrast to many of the traditional galleries in Paris this outlandish
designed building holds one of the largest collections of modern art, and
is billed as one of Paris’ most original cultural institutions.
If, whilst on a short or weekend break, you like to see the sights then Paris
won’t disappoint. The unmissible five consist of the Eiffel Tower, Notre
Dame, the Arc de Triomphe, La Seine and the Champs Elysées.
The Eiffel Tower
The Eiffel Tower is probably Paris’ most famous landmark, you can choose
to walk the first two floors for panoramic city views (115m), or pay a little
more and take the lift to the top (276m) for views for up to 40 miles on a
clear day. In the evening the tower is awash with lights which make a dramatic
focal point for the city.
Notre Dame Paris
The tower of Notre Dame is one of the most famous cathedrals in the world
dating back to 1163, gothic in style it is said to be one of the most enchanting
buildings in the world, not least due to the myths and legends that surround
it.
Arc de Triomphe & Champs Elysées in Paris
In the middle of one of the biggest and largest roundabouts in the world the
Arc de Triomphe provides a grand sight at the “top” of the Champs
Elysees making it the ideal place to begin a stroll through this famous area.
La Seine in Paris
If you are pushed for time on your short break to Paris a cruise along the
river Seine can be picked up at various locations and takes you on a whistle
stop tour of Paris’s best offerings.
The range of food and drink on offer in this capital is astronomical, you
will find everything in this city including the traditional Parisian cuisine.
Ensure that you look a little off the beaten track to avoid getting caught
up in restaurants who aim both the food and prices at the tourists! It’s
also wise to book ahead for an evening meal, for most restaurants the day
itself will suffice but for haute cuisine, bookings need to be made in as
much time as possible.
Paris is the most romantic city in the world for a short or weekend break,
if you are looking for love you couldn’t be in a better place. With
some of the most romantic and dramatic scenery in the world combined with
fantastic cuisine and entertainment (not to mention the shopping!) how could
your loved one not be impressed!
