Skiing & Snowboarding Short Breaks in Avoriaz, France
This resort sits at 1800m and is one of the most enjoyable and visually impressive resorts of the vast Portes du soleil area which link France and Switzerland. The resort can be accessed in half an hour by car/bus from Morzine (14km) and there is also a gondola and 2 ski lifts linking Avoriaz from Morzine as well as regular cable cars.
Incredible Views & Fantastic Choice of Slopes for Skiing & Snowboarding
Avoriaz is a purpose built ski resort, with a well thought out layout. The architecture however leaves something to be desired, nonetheless, the resort more than makes up for this in scenery- incredible views over the Morzine valley and Mont Blanc and a choice of the slopes.
One of the major pluses for Avoriaz is that it is a car-less resort, which not only makes it eco-friendly, but creates a calming and safe atmosphere for visitors. Another plus is the proximity of the lifts to the resorts accommodation with the ability to literally ski in and out of places; this includes eating places, shops and cafes. If you fancy being chauffeured, horse-drawn sleighs are popular!
Truely a Mecca for Boarders with a Specialist Snowboarding Park
Due to altitude, this resort is renowned for having good snow. It is also widely known as a boarding mecca having been the first European resort to truly embrace the sport. With a specialist park, slalom course, extensive off-piste, and a half pipe - it's heaven for snowboarders.
Fantastic Choice with Three Huge Snow Parks for Skiing & Snowboarding
The resort has three main snow parks that are highly reputed- Arare, La Chapelle and a snow skate park. Arare is particularly good for advanced skiers with tabletops, spines, and various rails and La Chapelle can be found at resort level which is ideal for beginners. At the foot of the resort there is also super-pipe which has its own lift. Lift passes for those wanting to use the parks and pipe only are available.
A Choice of Challenging Black Runs for the More Experienced Skiier
Skiers are drawn to the resort for its challenging black pistes - the most famous being ‘the wall' which should only be attempted by experienced skiers. For beginners and intermediates there are numerous and varied slopes throughout the network - however the links could be improved. In general, there are runs to suit all all abilities in Avoriaz.
Ski Schools for Young Skiiers & Great Nightlife for Evenings Out
Due to its attractions, this resort can get crowded and expensive at peak times. Off the slopes restaurants are plentiful and the nightlife is generally good. On the slopes, the ski school has a very good reputation, and in general children are well accommodated for, with a kids village managed by Olympic-medalist Annie Famose which teaches youngsters from 3 to 16 to ski.
