Skiing & Snowboarding in Chamonix, France for Year Round Winter Activities

Chamonix will really test your skills and is ideal for the perfect weekend break as it lies only 1 hour from Geneva airport. Made up of a number of villages linked by a ski bus, the Chamonix ski area offers some great off piste and something for the extreme skiers out there.

Chamonix For Mountaineering & Walking as well as Skiing & Snowboarding

Chamonix is more than a resort – it is a whole valley of mountain activity dominated by the Mont Blanc, western Europe's highest summit (4810m), and the acute pinnacles of the adjacent peaks. Unlike other winter resorts, Chamonix is a truly year round destination for action sports, mountaineering, and also relaxation with many tranquil beauty spots to enjoy.

The valley is made up of small and picturesque villages and five separate ski areas, with much of the style pre-dating purpose-built French ski destinations everywhere except for parts of Chamonix town.

Fantastic Activities On & Off the Slopes in Chamonix

The many qualities of Chamonix include the awe-inspiring backdrops, a quality of skiing which rapidly outclasses other European destinations, the ease of access and proximity to Geneva and the outside world by motorway, good restaurants and bars, and the multitude of activities on offer year round - Chamonix is an ideal destination for just about anyone who doesn't like to be bored!

Chamonix is famous for it's challenging terrain. Many feel it is more suited to the experienced skier, yet there are areas suitable for beginners at Les Houches and Le Tour. Seen by many as a very disconnected resort, it can seem a little hard to get to grips with. Once you do however it's charm becomes obvious. Fantastic views across Vallée Blanche and the Mont Blanc area are simply unmissable. The runs on Les Grands Montets are the safest bet for good snow late into the season, North facing and at 3275m you shouldn't be disappointed. Le Tour, though possibly not as demanding is also a wise choice later in the season.

Ideal for a Family or Groups Ski & Snowboarding Break in France

For families or groups including non-skiers, Chamonix is a good choice as it has plenty of distractions apart from skiing, including a leisure centre and walking trails. The Aguille du Midi cable-car, Europe's first and highest up, up Mont Blanc, provides spectacular views over the valley. There is also a scenic train ride up the valley to Switzerland.
