Skiing & Snowboarding in Les Deux Alpes - Great for a Weekend Ski Break in France
Les Deux Alpes is the main resort in the Dauphine region sitting at 1650m in the Southern Alpes. This resort is reputed for its fantastic snow, sunshine, extensive pistes/ off-piste terrain, breath taking scenery and lively après ski. This resort has several special features which set it aside from the rest, namely the spectacular glacier which is the highest in Europe at 3568m high, and for snowboarders, the superb snow park ‘Nitro' where the annual World Snowboarders competition is held.
This resort is extremely popular with the Brits and has a very vibrant, distinctly town-like feel to it, due to the number of British and French who are permanent residents here. The resort itself is spread out with the villages of Mont de Lans and Venosc at either end. Hotels, apartments, bars and shops are spread out along the resorts main street and are a mixture of old and new style buildings.
Getting around the resort is greatly aided by the free shuttle service allowing you to visit different shops, bars and restaurants along the main strip, and saving energy for the slopes!
Skiing & Snowboarding for All Abilities
There is plenty of choice for skiers/boarders of all abilities. Beginners should head to the top Glacier du Mont de Lans, a series of gentle slopes and great views.
The more challenging slopes of La Fee and off piste territory of La Grave are ideal for advanced skiers. For the more adventurous, there is the option of heli skiing/boarding - a trip by helicopter to Alpe d'Huez is highly recommended. Intermediates should tackle the blue runs with care as some are more challenging than there rating suggests, and are often crowded.
The resorts snow park has 10 hectares of terrain, including a beginners area, half-pipe zone, a zone made up of hips, gaps, quarters, a boarder cross area and unique to Les Deux Alpes, a JTS (also know as the snow air bag) set up by the snowboarding school. The latest addition to the park is the "Slide" zone.
