Meribel's position in the heart of the world-famous Three Valley ski area gives access to 600km of pistes and unlimited off-piste. Unlike many purpose built French resorts Meribel has retained its Alpine charm, consisting entirely of chalet-style wood and stone buildings.

The resort is situated between 1450m and 1700m, with the separate satellite village Meribel-Mottaret sited higher at 1700-1800m. The main resort is situated on a West-facing hillside. Lower in the valley are several traditional villages, with Les Allues and Raffort linked to the main lift system by gondola.

Meribel's lift system is modern and continually being improved, with 16 gondola lifts and 18 chairlifts. The neighbouring resorts of Courcheval, La Tania, Val Thorens and Les Menuires can be reached quickly, making Meribel the ideal base from which to explore the vast Trois Vallees. The resort hosts a number of great restaurants and has a reputation for A GREAT apres-ski life, with loads of bars and pubs to choose from. Meribel is famed for its boisterous nightlife, but if you want something a little quieter - Meribel Mottaret is a great option.

Meribel has a distinct British feel to it, namely due to its British founder in 1938. Originally the resort accommodation was pretty much on piste, nowadays much of it has spread further a field. Nonetheless this creates a great atmosphere in resort. Neighbouring Mottaret wasn't developed until the 1970's and most of the architecture appears modern.

A great advantage to Meribel is its fantastic location in the Three Valleys. If you take advantage of a six day+ lift pass you will have enough time to explore Val-d'Isere and the Paradiski area.
