Serre Chevalier is one of the main resorts in France located in the Southern Alps, with the National Park (Encrins) on its doorstep.
The resort is made up of 16 villages and the town of Briancon; the three main villages being Chantermerle, Villeneuve (stone village), and Monetier les Bains. The resort is unique in its character and reputation as a friendly resort and escapes the purpose built feel of other resorts. Its valley location and wooded mountains make this one of the most scenically picturesque of the French resorts. The resort itself is a mixture of old and new, not too smart but the old villages certainly have character. It’s hard not to appreciate this on when on a skiing break in the area.
Jet2.com offers winter ski flights to Chambery from UK airports for easy access to some of the top ski and snowboarding resorts in Europe. Plus, it is only 2 hours and 30 minutes from the airport – giving you plenty of time to enjoy the scenery on the way in.
Fantastic Ski and Snowboarding Conditions Perfect for All Abilities
Serre Chevalier has a vast and varied skiing area covering 250km, and with slopes reaching heights between 1350-1500m. It is renowned for its sunshine as well as its woodland areas which blanket the slopes until around two thirds up the mountains; this makes this resort particularly idyllic when the snow falls. Whilst the slopes are not super high, the quality of snow and the varied terrain makes up for this on a skiing break in the area.
This resort is ideal for intermediate level skiers who should head to Cucumelle for wide runs and fast paced slopes. The slopes are north/north-East facing, so they tend to hold the snow well. The main spots for beginners on a ski break can be found in Villeneuve and le Monetier which both have nursery areas and easy green runs. For the advanced skier on a skiing weekend in Serre Chevalier, there are some broad black runs leading you down to Villeneuve and Chantermerle.
Challenging Snow Park Ideal for Snowboarders
The resorts snow park has extensive off piste offering snowboarders challenging terrain with ample opportunity for free-ride, free-style, and boarder-cross. There is half pipe in Villeneuve and behind Mount Proril, and the snow park sits at 1500m on the way down to Chantemerle.
