Skiing & Snowboarding Short Breaks in
Val Thorens, France
As Europe's highest ski resort, sitting at the head of the Belleville valley above the nearby resorts of Les Menuires and the distinctly charming St. Martin de Bellevill, Val Thorens is pretty much guaranteed good snow.
Fabulous Atmosphere in the Cosy Bars & Restaurants in Val Thorens
Already more aesthetically pleasing than some of its French cousins, VT or Val Tho as it is known locally is undergoing an upgrading and rejuvenation programme. A few seasons ago the nightlife was younger and more rowdy; nowadays there is a distinct shift towards improving the standard of the resort. Built well above the tree-line when the weather closes in you can now be certain to find a cosy bar or restaurant to settle into.
Fantastic Conditions for All Abilities Including Black Runs & Off Piste Runs for the More Advanced Skiier
Skiing wise, on sunny days, it's hard to fault; with the choice of and expansive high-altitude bowl seated on glacial ice and a highest point of 3,200m in which to play; or the expanse on the 3 Valleys to explore (well, they do call it the largest ski area in the world!); there is even a ‘fourth valley' – the descent into La Maurienne. Intermediates and beginners (particularly start and end of season) will enjoy the terrain enormously and the snow-cover is pretty much guaranteed. Experts have the masses of off-piste to cover and some challenging black runs to tackle.
Fantastic Snow for All Abilities of Snowboarders
The great snow provides good boarding for both beginners and carvers – there is also a pipe and park in the resort centre serviced by the Deux Lacs chair, it has a sound system and hosts weekly competitions.
Other Fabulous Activities to Do Whilst on a Break from Skiing or Snowboarding
At the end of the day a fine selection of restaurants and bars awaits. The resort's compact and largely car-free nature makes getting around easy. There is a large snowcentre, the longest toboggan run in Europe and snowmobiling is available.
