The Monterosa Ski area is comprised of three resorts; Champoluc, Gressoney and Alagna. This area is popular with Italian skiers and is attracting more British visitors for skiing weekends every year. With cheap ski flights to Chambery and Geneva with, there's never been a better time to book your winter ski and snowboarding break.

Champoluc is a pleasant village situated to the West of the three long valleys in the Monterosa Ski area. It is easily accessible by car and usually takes about 3 hours from Chambery and about 2 hours 30 minutes from Geneva, giving you plenty of opportunity to witness some of the excellent scenery.

The resort has a few bars and shops and there are some good hotels available. However, it is geared up for the hardcore skier, with challenging pistes and a quaint atmosphere that complements the adrenaline rush of the day’s pursuits.

Gressoney is a beautiful, unspoilt village, excellent for skiing in Italy and it is great for the more hardcore skier enjoying a snowboarding or skiing break. There isn’t a great deal to do in the evenings so it is all about relaxing and reserving your strength for the extensive backcountry terrain and fantastic heliskiing, which is some of the best in Europe.

The area is made up of two separate villages, Gressoney La Trinité at the end of the valley where the lifts to the Monterosa ski area are located and Gressoney St Jean is larger and has more hotels and facilities though is further from the lifts. Gressoney St Jean has its own separate slopes though when skiing here you really want to experience the Monterosa area.

Fantastic Scenery and Snow Conditions in Alagna

The jagged mountains at Alagna provide a stunning backdrop to your exploration of the surrounding peaks when on a skiing break in Italy. Alagna encompasses a massive range of backcountry escapades as well as great helisking. Alagna's town is picturesque though quiet with a handful of facilities, though this area, as with the rest of the Monterosa Ski area, is perfect for a relaxing long weekend ski breaks in Italy for those who want to focus on the slopes rather than the après ski.
