Skiing in Italy - Skiing & Snowboarding Short Breaks in Monterosa Ski, Italy

The Monterosa ski area is comprised of three resorts – Champoluc, Gressoney and Alagna. This area is popular with Italian skiers and is attracting more British visitors every year. Champoluc is a pleasant village situated to the West of the three long valleys in the Monterosa Ski area. It has few bars and shops though there are some good hotels available.

Gressoney is a beautiful, unspoilt village. Excellent for skiing in Italy the area is great for the more hardcore skier. With little to do in the evenings your strength can be reserved for the extensive backcountry terrain and fantastic heliskiing, which is some of the best in Europe.

The area is made up of two separate villages, Gressoney La Trinité at the end of the valley is where the lifts to the Monterosa ski area are located and Gressoney St Jean is larger and has more hotels and facilities though is further from the lifts. Gressoney St Jean has its own separate slopes though when skiing here you really want to experience the Monterosa area.

The jagged mountains at Alagna provide a stunning backdrop to your exploration of the surrounding peaks when skiing in Italy.  Alagna encompasses a massive range of backcountry escapades as well as great helisking.  Alagna's town is picturesque though quiet with few facilities, though this area, as with the rest of the Monterosa Ski area is perfect for a relaxing long weekend break in Italy for those who want to focus on the slopes rather than the après ski.
